Le Petit Manoir

Le Petit Manoir French Country House Plan
Le Petit Manoir (As shown here, by Vintage Realty and Vintage Construction, in the Provence Neighborhood, Shreveport, La.)

alled Le Petit Manoir because of its subtle proportions and delicate detail, our "little manor house" is perhaps mis-named because it is anything but petit.  The elegant detailing and attention to the proper use of typical French design elements make this house perfect for a city or country setting.

Front entrance

Outside, one is immediately drawn its interesting massing with a progression of hipped roofs flairing out at the base in typical French style.  As often seen in French architecture, shed dormers, wrought iron balconies and a heavy wooden entry door set into arched stone vestibule create warmth and make the house inviting.  Because, in France, stone was always favored over timber, when available, it seems very appropriate as the material of choice here.  Wooden shutters adorn select windows and the skillful use of materials creates contrast and adds interest through the use of characteristically French elements.

Le Petit Manoir

A cluster of interesting spaces around the stairwell create a very usable ground floor.  A timbered entry foyer flanked by a study/living room with fireplace and dining room off the kitchen, greet guests as they enter the house.  A high, beamed ceiling in the study create the allure of space and texture.  This elegant reception is further enhanced by the long view through to a covered porch and gardens beyond.  Accessing the covered porch directly are the spacious family room/kitchen and master bedroom suite with large walk-in closet and luxurious master bath.  The family room features another fireplace and built-in bookshelves.  A semi-private kitchen layout keeps family room activity separate, while being accessible and functional around an island off the breakfast nook.  A laundry room is conveniently located near the kitchen and master bedroom adjacent to the half bath near the garage entrance.

A central staircase leads from the foyer to the second floor.  This floor features three bedrooms, each with a private bath and generous storage. A bonus room over the garage off the landing is an excellent opportunity for an office, media or playroom.

Convenience and functionality are the hallmarks of this plan.
