The Meeting Street

The Meeting Street

ome of historic Charleston's most gracious, old homes and inns lie south of Broad on Meeting street.  Here, near the waterfront of the Historic District, you can catch glimpses of sails in the harbor, and experience a profound sense of Charleston's romantic past.  The fresh fragrance of private gardens mingles with the salt air of the Atlantic Ocean.  Nearby, Charleston's finest boutiques, antique shops and restaurants beckon.  The charms of the "Holy City" are nowhere more apparent than here.  The Meeting Street recalls a by gone era with amenities for today's lifestyles.

The Meeting Street

The familiar two-tier porch in the front has always been a haven to catch summer breezes by locals who knew this long ago.  Tall windows allow plenty of sun light and facilitated the cooling of interior spaces.  A fan light adorns the front door.  In typical Charleston fashion, the house is capped with a terra cotta red, standing seam metal roof that echoes the soothing sound of rain drops under the predictable summer afternoon shower.

Entering off the front covered porch, one is greeted in the foyer by stately columns framing the entrance to a large living room with fireplace to one end.  A private study with fireplace is tucked directly off the foyer and boasts its own private half-bath and wet bar.  A series of columns continue into the rest of the house echoing the stately theme through out.  A generous kitchen and family area are well integrated, providing an open area for entertaining and family activity.  A more formal dining room sits to one end extending the expansive, open feel of the space.  An adjacent, covered screened porch open off the dining room offering another spot for summer dining or early morning breakfasts.

Stairs lead down to a two car garage beyond the kitchen and up to the second floor above.

Upstairs, a surprisingly large space unfolds with four bedrooms and a centrally located media/play room.  The master bedroom with luxurious bath and large, walk-in closets is located mid-way up off the first landing creating a private area separate from the main floor.  There, three additional bedrooms have their own baths and plenty of closet space.  The two front bedrooms enjoy separate access to a covered porch overlooking the entrance.  An open area for a media/play room is centrally located for everyone to enjoy.  One wall with built-in bookcases, counter and cabinets below provide essential storage and work area.  A laundry/linen storage room is conveniently located in the center of the floor within easy access to all bedrooms.
